Fact-checking and corrections
How we check facts
- An editor opens every source cited on the page and confirms that it says what we say it says.
- Every number links to the page it came from, in the same sentence or table row. If we cannot find a source for a number, we remove it.
- We check the title, description, image alt text and structured data, not just the body.
- Drafts written with AI help get a line-by-line check, because AI tools can state wrong things confidently.
- Where experts disagree or the evidence is thin, we say so and point to the sources.
Sources we accept
Government agencies, university extension and IPM programs, peer-reviewed research, and product labels. The full order of preference is in our editorial policy.
How expert reviewers work
Reviewers are pest control professionals with hands-on field experience. Guides about pesticides or treatments are reviewed only by a licensed or certified professional. Expert contributors without a license review only practical, non-chemical topics such as signs, identification and prevention, and their profiles say so. Reviewers read the guide, correct anything wrong, and may add tips from their own work. Their input appears only in words they wrote or approved in writing. Each reviewer’s profile lists their experience and, if they hold a license, the credential and a link to the public license lookup so you can verify it.
